Mélissa Biondo

Finalist 2025

«Edging», 2025

Sound composition: LAFROFEE

Edging—a moment of suspension, a delayed gratification where the body, on the threshold to action, becomes both presence and absence. Through a dramaturgy of slowness, Edging explores the dilation of time, where pleasure rubs shoulders with discomfort in a slowly shifting terrain, poised between movement and stillness, tension and release. The piece evokes both monstrosity and tenderness, concealment and protection. What seems grotesque may veil an inner calm, a refuge that can only be sensed through the gaps, folds, and off-screen spaces of performance. Referring to Édouard Glissant’s “right to opacity,” Biondo claims ambiguity as an aesthetic and ethical stance, inviting the audience to inhabit a terrain where meaning wavers, perception stretches, and the real remains inexhaustible.
