La Société du Pestacle, 2022
In La Société du Pestacle, Natalie Portman gathers a group of characters from theaterplays. The actors performing these roles in different productions are taking part in the Swiss Performance Award at Kunstmuseum Luzern by mixing with the audience. Detached from their original context, these characters are recombined here to create a temporary crossover, allowing new speculative relationships and parallel stories to emerge. The varying degrees of identifiability of their costumes has the effect of further blurring the boundaries between performers and spectators. Natalie Portman reflects on the performative aspects inherent to any cultural event’s audience and amplify it by diverting into it fictional universes and the professional scenes that represent them (in this case the Swiss theater milieu).
